Letter from a customer

Hi Fran,

We purchased some of your damaged bag DE (55#) some time ago. I just wanted to let you know how incredibly wonderful it is!! We have been feeding it to our horses (3 of which are rescues) and have seen phenomenal results!! I beleive at least one of the rescues stayed alive because of the DE. I think the better nutrient absorption because of taking the DE was a huge factor in her recovery. One of our mares just gave birth last week to her first foal. I believe that the DE made this baby stronger and healthier. She is more vibrant as well as strong on her pasturns. More so, than we have witnessed with other newborn foals prior to the DE. I also take it for my own health and love the effects it has for me as well.

I also wanted to let you know that I am on quite a few lists and have passed on your web address. While telling people on the list about the benefits of DE, I also let them know how honest, dependable and easy to work with you and your company are. Also, Loli Johnson from Good Earth in Utah County called me today to ask where the store could order it. I sent her your information.

...in a couple of weeks I will probably need 2-3 more bags if you will have them available. ...

Thank you so much! Kimberly

PS~ Would you mind if we put your link on our website? I would like to write a small blurb about DE and include your link...Let me know what you think... thanks so much!

Autism and Behavioral Disorders

Recent studies are finding that there is a strong correlation between clogged gastro intestinal tracts, heavy metals, and behavioral problems. It is believed that these problems are due in part to mercury in vaccines, food preservatives, and the quantity of processed food that is consumed. The nutrient poor diet in combination with the lack of fiber and high percentage of meat has contributed to an acidic state and a clogged intestinal tract. In fact, studies show that the overwhelming majority of children who suffer from ADHD, Autism, and other behavior disorders have high levels of metals in the blood stream and that "their upper GI tract is an absolute mess".
Not surprising is that once these symptoms are treated, and their diets are improved, their behavior improves also.

We have found a similar situation with livestock. For over 35 years, customers' testimonials report that the behavior of horses, cows, goats, and pets have quickly changed when diatomaceous earth (DE)has been added to their diet. Studies have shown that in addition to the mechanical killing and removing of parasites in the intestinal tract, that the DE also removes metals from the system. In fact, Dr. Galen Knight has hypothesised that diatomaceous earth could be a better and safer chelator than DMPS, DMSA, and EDTA. We have seen that cows who licked holes in the earth and horses that chew on fence posts stop once DE is added to the diet. It was initially believed that this was due to the 14 trace minerals in the DE. However, it is now believed that it is not only due to the minerals in the DE, but also the fact that the toxins from the parasites as well as the built up waste on the walls of the stomach are removed due to the mild abrasive qualities of the DE. The removal of the parasites and waste allow more of the nutrients from the food consumed to be absorbed and benefit the animals. The result is a significant and noticeable change in the behavior. The animals become calmer and there is a noticeable decrease in their food intake. The food intake is evidence that they are getting more nutrients from less food. We also have seen a sheen return to their coat, brighter eyes, and more pep in their step. Farmers have also reported that arthritic animals lose their stiffness and become active and lively again. In fact, this was one of the reasons that farmers initially began consuming DE after feeding it to their livestock.
I believe that it is very likely that children with behavioral disorders, intestinal problems, autism, and heavy metal levels could see some significant benefits if DE were introduced in their diet and certain foods were removed from their diets. The Feingold Diet has had great results by introducing a restrictive diet and by focusing on cleansing the intestinal tract and removing metals from the system. I have no doubt, in light of the results that Dr. Galen Knight have reported, that DE could prove one of the most effective and cost efficient natural solutions to this enormous and devastating problem facing children today.

In addition to adding organic DE to the diet, I believe that the addition of ionized/oxidized water to the diet might also play a significant role in the elimination of parasites, toxins, and in promoting good health. The addition of an ionizing unit in the home will help keep the body in balance.

Ionized Water is Alkaline :

Ionized water helps balance the body's pH, which tends to be acidic because of our diet comprised of cooked foods, pasteurized or otherwise processed foods. Soft drinks are the most acid substance a person can put in their body. This acidic condition creates an ideal environment in our body for disease to thrive. Ionized water dissolves accumulated acid waste and returns the body to a balance. Keeping ourselves alkaline is the first line of defense in fighting any disease.

Ionized Water is Up to Six Times more Hydrating that Conventional Water :

Water is one of the most important elements in the body, which in some cases is over 80% water. Ionized Water is fundamentally different from conventional water. This is because the size and shape of the water molecule cluster has reduced in size and change in shape to hexagonal, which allows the water cluster to pass through our tissue more easily. One of the primary causes of disease is chronic cellular dehydration, a condition, which leaves the body's cells in a perpetual state of weakness and defense. Drinking ionized water helps with this condition.

Ionized Water is Detoxifying and a Superior Hydrator :

This is also because of the reduced size and shape of the water molecule clusters. Once reduced, these water clusters pass through the body's tissue much easier and push out toxins and acid waste quite effectively. The KYK Harmony water ionizer has several levels of strength so people who are toxic can begin by drinking mild ionized water, slowly drinking it stronger as they acclimate to it.

Minerals that are Ionized are more Bio-available :

This means that the body can absorb them much more efficiently and make use of them where they are needed throughout the body. Water soluble trace minerals of any kind can be added to your water source through the mineral port on the Harmony Water Ionizer. Minerals are some of the most important nutrients the body needs, yet mineral deficiency is common. Ionized water is an efficient and effective way for the body to get its minerals.

Ionized Water improves the taste of food :

Ionized Water hydrates food better, helps bring out its flavor, lowers acid levels of any food including coffee, tea & juice. It ionizes the minerals in the food, which helps make them bio-available.

At its strongest level, Ionized acid water kills most bacteria on contact. It improves hair and skin conditions of any kind, including fungus, cuts, scraps, even serious wounds. It takes the itch out of mosquito bites, the sting out of other insect bites.

Author's Offer - If you have a child who is suffering from Autism, ADHD, or another behavioral disorder, and you would like to participate in a trial using pure organic, food grade diatomaceous earth, please contact me. I am looking for 300 - 500 children, aged 6 - 9 to participate in this trial, who will document their results over a 6 month period. During this time, I will provide 100% of the DE to those participating in the trial, free of charge. It is my hope that by documenting the results, this very inexpensive, all natural treatment might be used by others.

Testimonials for Fossil Shell Flour

What are customers, researchers, and Vets are saying about Perma-Guard Fossil Shell Flour?

Over the past 36 years, Perma-Guard has received thousands of unsolicited testimonials claiming the benefits received by using our products. While Perma-Guard continues to receive these letters (and in some cases we even have 200 or 300 pages of reports from a major University in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture supporting these claims), the FDA, and the USDA will not allow us to make the claims.

However, we believe that after you have read a few of our testimonials that you will begin to see a pattern. We include these customer testimonials and state that we make no such claims. We sell our regulated DE products by the information on the labels. Any additional benefits received are incidental and free. Your feedback is welcome.

“… to control flies, manure odor, parasites, and improve overall health*…”
Customers, Vets, and Researchers claim:

Charlene Rowley - Arthritis Gone

Here is another testimonial I received in June, 2006. It is a horribly traumatic diary of a woman's effort to eliminate parasites with the help of Fossil Shell Flour. - Katherine in Oregon, age 45.

Dr. Galen Knight: "… nearest to a "MIRACLE PRODUCT" I have ever seen. It does so much good, with absolutely NO “side effects”!

Frank Zimmerman, "after 30 years use with dairy cows, Quarter Horses, and all other animals around the farm. He recommends it to ALL his contacts. His operation has fly and odor under control and his animals are worm free... Anyone wishing to talk to Frank is free to call him at A to Z Farm in Arizona."

James Hussey used Perma-Guard DE for 28 years on his dairy herd. President of the Arizona Dairyman's Association for many years and exhibitor at the State Fair for 70 years. He had no fly or odor problems and the benefits to his animals and his business were very positive. For a copy of his letters call us.

Dr. Phillip Schaible, while heading the Dept. of Poultry Sciences at Michigan State University, reported:

"Contains 15 trace minerals important to animal diets. DE mixes well with all feeds while guarding against insect damage. Prevents worms and keeps virus epidemics from developing. Saves albumen, destroys harmful acids, safeguards the stomach. Improves health and growth of young animals. Causes better digestion, allowing animals to absorb a higher percentage of protein from its regular diet".

Dr. C.S. Hansen, DVM, with 8,000 chickens - "...immediately had a lower death rate, egg production went up and egg breakage went down". His profitability went way up.

Dr. H.D. Johnson, DVM, with 2000 calves – after 2 years, not a single case of scours. He says, "using Fossil Shell Flour we have been able to eliminate vaccines and antibiotics".

Dr. M. F. Petty, DVM, "...gave immediate elimination and control of worms, stopped pigs from rooting and chewing feeder boxes, reduced manure odor, greatly reduced fly population and increased feed efficiency. Really improved profitability."

Capital South Syndicate by Dan Miller, manager.- Feeding FSF to my show and race horses, stallions, mares, foals and horses in training, we have seen improvements in their hair coat and their attitude. Flies and parasites are less of a problem.

Leslie "Shorty" Thomas, L. Frank Roper Stables, Winter Park, FL. - "I take pride in the appearance and health of the horses under my care, which have won many national awards against stiff competition... I am grateful to have found Fossil Shell Flour ... It stopped scours, noticeably reduced flies, increased appetites, better feed conversion, eliminated internal parasites and created a healthier appearance. I would definitely recommend this product to other horsemen".

Johnnie Firestone on Sheep - "We were losing one sheep every three days from the fringe tape worm in the bile duct. We started feeding the animals FSF, mixed with salt and cotton seed meal. Within two weeks the dying stopped. Since that time we have lost 2 sheep, but not to worms. To say that I am sold on FSF is a rank understatement. I recommend to anyone, just try it, it doesn’t cost much!"

Bill Worrell, Briarpatch Farms - "Because we wanted something safe to use around the house and on the animals, we knew there was no option except something "Food Grade." The only challenge we had after that was to determine which "Food Grade" product was the best. For the answer to this question, we merely looked at how the manufacturer backed up their product. Perma-Guard was the only company we found that backed it up unconditionally. We personally checked out all the information about DE and after looking at Material Safety Data Sheets and reading about 100 publications and documents, Perma-Guard beat every other DE product hands down. -- We personally use DE in the feed of every animal on our place. As an anti-caking agent, which is how DE is sold normally, it coats each particle of feed. It is the opinion of many that this allows more digestive juices to come in contact with the food particles, allowing the gut to better digest the food, resulting in better growth, and less undigested feed particles to pass. It is also believed by many that the DE which passes through the animals helps to control the fly population because when the flies lay their eggs on the manure, the larvae hatch and are lacerated by the DE This breaks the cycle of the fly. DE is also loaded with trace minerals as well. -- Our chicks get it in their first feeder of feed. Our dogs get it in their feed weekly. We also put DE in the dusting areas for the birds. Our birds enjoy a good dusting with DE in the hot weather. Dusting helps to control parasites such as lice, and we believe DE aids in that control since lice are soft-shelled. We also put DE in the nest boxes to help control lice in the nests. For severe infestations, we will dust the birds with DE that has Pyrethrins in it. We have found this to work better than the Food Grade product."

Diatomaceous Earth

As the internet email groups have many discussions about Diatomaceous Earth (DE) I decided to add what we have found through use for almost 20 years.

When we started using DE we de-wormed the goats as normal. Then we started mixing DE with the trace minerals in equal amounts by volume. We did fecals monthly for over a year with our vet. We used chemical de-wormers only right after our does kidded.

In that time, our fecals were clean! This isn't just a good herd but one that "survives" in parasite heaven called SW Florida and we live basically in swampland. If anyone uses DE, I would suggest that you also do the same thing. Have your vet do a fecal every month from a representation of your herd. This way you will know if it is working or not.

Granted this is just our experience, but we certainly are impressed with it. I must stress though the importance of cleaning up the herd first through proper de-worming and then doing monthly fecals to determine it's effectiveness. I don't know if it will "de-worm" your does, but I think rather it keeps the eggs from developing, thereby maintaining a clean herd.

I have to WARN YOU!

The stuff that you buy for swimming pools, etc. is poison and although there may be differences (although I can't see how as a diatom is a diatom is a diatom), it is the particulate that is also present in the non-food grade that is highly dangerous as it contains lead, etc.

I'm sure if anyone really wants to know about DE and why there are 2 grades, you can go to a USDA website and do a search for more pertinent information. Start with grains, and go from there. I've seen the information on one of the sites previously so I know it is there. After all, it is government approved for use in granaries to keep mealy bugs, etc out of the grain and has been a useful alternative for organic growers for many years, approved by USDA.

That said, folks do NOT try to do any "home studies" based on a claim that the difference between 2 types is the sharpness of the diatoms. That is NOT the reason for the 2 grades. One is full of heavy metals which are poisonous and the food grade has been tested to be pure.

DIATOMACEOUS EARTH (DE)

Below is a report on Diatomaceous Earth (DE) that I have written as a service to my readers and is a result of my studies concerning Diatomaceous Earth (DE). I have no permission from the FDA or the USDA to make any claims concerning Diatomaceous Earth (DE). These claims are from the my searches of the internet and from literature I have in my possession. I am using Diatomaceous Earth (DE) and I have seen good results but I haven't used it long enough to prove all of these claims and I can't guarantee you will share the same results. I do have the CFR numbers showing FDA and USDA approval for using Diatomaceous Earth (DE) as a feed additive.

I have been studying feeds and feeding for some time now and, about 6 months ago, I started learning all I could about diatomaceous earth. This is a natural pesticide and has no ill effects when used with animals. Be sure to get the food grade diatomaceous earth because it has been approved by the FDA and USDA. (The pool grade and filter grade have not been approved as a feed additive and it may be harmful to use them and they will not accomplish the desired results) This will kill all internal and external parasites, aid in feed conversion, control flies by killing the larvae in manure, control odor, and promote better health and egg laying. This will also kill other insects in your garden, orchard, home, and lawn. It is great for controlling ants. I recently became a dealer for DE because it is all natural and there were no dealers in my area. This kills insects and parasites by cutting their exoskeleton and they dehydrate. It contains no poisons.

As we all know, humans are destroying our planet by using poisons for everything. Diatomaceous Earth is a safe alternative to using poisons to control insects and parasites. Every time we de-worm our animals, we eventually will be eating these same poisons. We are using poisons in our homes and gardens and orchards. Where do you think these poisons are going to end up?

Everyone told me that I should worm my birds every spring so I went and bought 25 pounds of Ivomec (the type you mix in the feed) about two months ago. I didn't use this because I had been reading about DE and wanted to see if it worked. I was going to get 50 pounds and try it. That idea changed to 14000 pounds and a dealership. I still have the ivomec and will never use it. (Terrible huh) I don't believe in treating a disease without proof that the disease exists. My birds look great, grow great, lay great, and hatch great. I have never had any problems at all but I was about to break my rule and feed them ivomec. I am really glad I waited. I do believe in giving them the best care possible and the diatomaceous earth will control both internal and external parasites, flies and odors. It is also 100 percent natural with no withdrawal prior to slaughter and no side effects so I will use it from now on.

M.F. Petty D.V.M. Alabama -
"Test on feeder pigs eliminated internal parasites in the test group in 7 days. Odor was noticeably less offensive after 21 days. Fly population decreased markedly after 6 weeks."

I am sorry this is so long but I felt the info was important. If you want to learn more, call or email me and we will talk.

Below is a note I wrote when I first started using Diatomaceous Earth:
I just mixed 20 pounds of diatomaceous earth with 1000 pounds of feed and used the other 30 pounds in 7 pens for my ostriches to dust themselves with. It is unbelievable how quick the birds started creating a dust cloud. It is also unbelievable how far 30 pounds of diatomaceous earth will go. Anyone want to buy any white ostriches? I have been wanting to buy some but now I don't have to. I know adult birds know how to dust themselves and they love fine sand for this but I wouldn't have thought they would know what I put this in their pens for. I, also, would not have thought 2 week old ostriches were smart enough to immediately start dusting. They sit just like the older birds and rake their neck through the DE and throw it up onto their backs. You have to see them laying in the center of the diatomaceous earth and their little wings really going. Anyone who raises ratites has to try this at least once. If there was no health benefits for using DE, it would be worth the cost of one bag just to watch them. Be sure that you have time to watch when you use it the first time. If any of you have a hard time finding food grade diatomaceous earth, please contact me.

DIATOMACEOUS EARTH
It is interesting to note that everyone I have talked to who have used Diatomaceous Earth (D.E.) was very pleased with the results. On the other hand, a small typed handout by a local LDS member said D.E. was not effective in preventing insect infestation. Read the following and let me know what you think.

DIATOMACEOUS EARTH
by Philip A. Wheeler
If as much time was spent applying diatomaceous earth (DE) to insect infestations as is spent writing about it, the pesticide companies would go out of business. However, if someone doesn't keep writing about DE it seems to fade into the background. This could be explained by the fact that Dow, Monsanto, Union Carbide and other manufacturing companies don't really want their profitable poisons replaced by an inexpensive, non-tonic, naturally occurring, low margin material found in 27 countries of the world. Diatoms Are the grass of the oceans and lakes. Just as green grass is the staple food of earth animals, Diatoms (algae) are the food of the ocean or fresh water grazers. These tiny organisms Are protected by a crystal shell which looks like a miniature sand dollar. When DE organisms die, the shells pile up on the bottom to form deposits. These deposits are then mined from underwater beds or from ancient dried lake bottoms.
Once DE is mined, it can be milled or processed into a myriad of types for an even greater variety of uses. Filtering and filler are the two main uses but DE also ends up in paints, cosmetics, drugs, chemical insecticides, etc. Because the milling produces different sized and shaped particles, it is important not to use the filtering type for agricultural purposes .
Filter grind has long crystalline structures which will puncture tissue and injure animals which inhale or ingest it. DE used in agriculture must be milled until it is almost completely amorphous. This means it has no crystalline form left to cause damage to larger organisms Instead, it has small sharp edges which can damage tiny parasites, larvae, on stored grain, in animal manure, on infected plants and in the stomachs of livestock and people.
Since it also has an attractive mineral composition, DE users have reported five distinct uses on the farm: grain storage, deworming, mineralization, deodorizing/absorption, and insecticidal dusting. Each use has its own folklore, facts and fiction associated with it so each will be discussed.
APPROVED FEED ADDITIVE
The EPA has approved DE as an additive in feed for use as an anti-caking agent and has exempted it from tolerance requirements as an inert, inactive ingredient in chemical pesticides. Any uses other than those presented here are strictly reports of what farmers have done with the material.
PARASITE CONTROL
DE has been used for at least two decades as a natural wormer for livestock. It is believed that the DE scratches and dehydrates parasites. Some scientists believe that the DE is a de-ionizer or de-energizer of the worms or parasites. Regardless of the method of operation, farmers report definite control. For effective use, the DE must be fed long enough to catch all the newly hatching eggs or cycling of the worms through the lungs and back to the stomach. A minimum of 60 days is suggested at 2% of dry weight of the grain ration. Caution: do not give to very small pregnant animals such as cats, guinea pigs, etc. and do not feed continually to babies or very small adult animals such as cats, hamsters, etc. The material may be fed on a continuous basis to larger livestock for continuous parasite control and mineralization which is the next major use.
MINERALIZATION
If you began feeding DE to your poultry or livestock and noticed a gain in production, what could the gain be attributed to? The obvious answer would be that the DE reduced the parasite population which resulted in decreased stress on the animal and increased food assimilation. But what about the "mineral" content of the DE? If oyster shell meal provides calcium, then finely ground DE may also provide a broad-spectrum of naturally occurring chelated minerals. These include calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphate, sodium, titanium, potassium and others. Numerous reports of gain have been reported when adding DE: to a ration. With lack of mineralization in modern grains, it isn't hard to conceive of mineral benefits from a finely ground natural mineral product. An Alabama study on hogs showed complete stopping of wood feeder chewing when DE was added to the feed ration. Feeding at 2% of grain ration can take care of both de-worming and mineralization. Most livestock will acquire a "taste" for the mineral if a small amount is mixed in with other feed. After acquiring a "taste" for DE they may take it free-choice.
DEODORIZATION/ABSORPTION
The third major farm use can be an added benefit from the first two uses. Deodorizing and absorption are natural functions of DE. These will continue to happen as undigested DE passes through with manure. Reduced fly hatching is usually observed in manure from livestock fed DE. Some dairy and hog farmers are also spreading it in bedding (for odor and moisture control) in addition to that coming through the manure.
FLY CONTROL/INSECTICIDE
Fly control is a major problem with livestock operations. DE can be placed in tightly woven burlap bags and hung in doorways. Livestock will be attracted to it and work the bag until their heads are covered with powder which repels flies. In closed areas, DE can be fogged with hand cranked or electric foggers to wipe out flies. Livestock need not be removed and contamination of milk or feed is not a concern. Since the DE "kill" is always mechanical in nature, it is important that the material come in direct contact with the insect. Mixing DE with things flies are attracted to around the farm may cause them to ingest DE in their attempts to eat the attractant. Besides fly control, DE can be used as an insecticide on most crops. In 1943 the USDA found that DE had an 86% mortality against pea weevil. On California cotton fields, DE was found to be more effective than insecticides and the yield was substantially increased (Tucker, 1978). Other tests indicate that DE is effective in controlling aphids, brown mites, red spider mites, twig bores, oriental fruit moths and coddling moths in orchards (Alien, 1972: DeCrusta, 1979). Field use of DE had several problems Not sticking to the vegetation is the main one. Apply DE when plants are moist from natural or artificial sources to aid sticking but re-application is usually necessary after a heavy rain. Putting a negative electrostatic charge on the DE has greatly increased in adherence to leaf surfaces. One company which has since gone bankrupt perfected an electrostatic applicator but widespread use never occurred. Adding an attractant may also be useful here and several patents have been issued for that purpose.
GRAIN PROTECTION
The last use to discuss is grain and flour storage. DE offers the only easy answer to chemical contamination of stored grain. Irradiation could be used, but cost and negative health effects make it very undesirable. This writer has kept wheat, oats, and spelt in open bins for two years or more with no insect damage by applying DE at approximately 7 pounds pet ton of stored grain. The DE was sprinkled into the auger by hand As an examination of its effectiveness, it was compared with malathion and untreated grain on 1,000 bushels of wheat by the Agricultural Research Service of the USDA. After 12 months storage, the DE treated material had 15 insects compared to 4884 for malathion and 16,994 for untreated. Although 7 pounds of DE may lower the commercial grade of wheat immediately after treatment, the wheat maintained its grade longer than other treated or untreated grain. Flour yielding and bread baking qualities are not affected. The new patents allowing DE to be used effectively at 1 to 2 pounds per ton instead of 7 pounds should eliminate any grade deterioration problems. Recent grain board tests in Canada have proven in the field what the patents claimed on paper, i.e. DE protects stored grain without contaminating it. DE is not the same. Differences have accounted for large variations in past testing on DE as an insecticide which has slowed the universal acceptance of DE for that purpose. This writer prefers fresh water diatoms to sea types for several reasons. The bio-activity seems to be better and the health ramifications of breathing the fine white dust seems to be almost negligible because of its 99% plus amorphous structure compared with a higher percentage crystalline structure. Since we now have electronic testing equipment available it pays to "check it out" before buying and using any DE. FOSSIL FLOUR is a non-treated, non-milled, non-calcined fresh water form of Diatomaceous Earth. It consists of microscopic fresh water diatoms which were deposited millions of years ago and have since fossilized. Under microscopic examination each particle looks like a tiny glass spear which pricks the outer skin or coating of insects, worms, maggots, etc. causing them to dehydrate and die. The product is a fine powder, white to gray in color. Diatomaceous Earth is approved for use as an anti-caking agent in livestock and poultry feeds. Nutritional Research Assoc., Inc. makes no claims about diatomaceous earth other than for approved uses. Test results (University of Illinois) in 1966 show that the use of the product does not harm animals or leave residues in milk or meat.

Immune System Care & Feeding
This is an ambitious undertaking, but one "well" worth the effort involved. The information is compiled from decades of research, tempered by recent discoveries in biochemistry made by this author pertaining to immune system function, including a natural compound named "vitaletheine" that plays a crucial role in keeping us healthy. In every case, the food, supplement, or beverage discussed has been approached from the standpoint of whether it aids or hinders immune function and other regulatory systems in the body. The same applies to determining what makes a given substance toxic, by analyzing its effect upon immunity and regulation. An immune response must be triggered and then controlled when threats to health are encountered. If the immune system is thwarted, various disease states manifest, and in the case of severe dysfunction or complete failure, autoimmune disease, and cancer become possible. In the interest of preventing this unhappy situation from arising for those of us still enjoying relatively good health, the following information is presented in specific order, allowing one to steadily adopt practices that will support the immune system in its essential job of weeding out the competition within, between our bodies's cells and outside microbes. Every item discussed here is integral to this process, and the sooner a comprehensive, integrated approach to the problem is achieved, the easier time our immune systems will have in fighting its battles on our behalf! The items that start with "bullets" indicate the core daily regimen to launch us on our health odyssey, but realize that the nutrition obtained with the other dietary elements discussed is equally important and should be added as soon as possible. Additional related information is included for solutions to specific problems. As more information is obtained and verified, it will be posted on the web site, and, resources permitting, made available in print. Networking with friends and relatives is suggested to help further this non-profit research and educational program, and to relieve some of the more mundane burdens currently placed upon VitaleTherapeutics, Inc. in disseminating this information.

New! Non-Toxic Pest Control
During the product-demonstration shows of his current national tour, Dennis Lee puts some of the non-toxic powder in a jar of bugs and in a few minutes they are all dead. But what gets the attention of the audience is when he takes some of that same powder, mixes it in a glass of water and drinks it.
The powder is called Perma Guard, an alternative to the standard insecticides that are used today. It is a product that is largely made up of diatomaceous earth. Therefore completely harmless to human and animal life. Added to this diatomaceous earth are Pyrethrum which is one of mans oldest insecticides and highly lethal to insects. It comes from the chrysanthemum flowers located in Kenya and Ecuador and is a digestible vegetable extract of the flower. Piperonyl butoxide is another vegetable extract that is an insecticide in its own right. It is added to Perma Guard to greater enhance the Pyrethrum and make it more effective. Together, these three ingredients help make Perma Guard an almost all-purpose insecticide.
Why use Perma Guard insecticides? Because of the widespread use of conventional chemical insecticides, especially in the agricultural industry, and the other chemicals that are being introduced into our earth on a daily basis, there has developed a great problem of contamination to our water and plant life. Perma Guard is a safe alternative to these chemicals while doing a better job at removing insects of many varieties. After all, we are responsible for what we put on our planet. Shouldn't we use something safe and natural for all rather than destroying our planet any further. Perma Guard is the natural choice and safe alternative to insect control.
PRODUCT INFORMATION
Perma Guard comes in seven varieties. Below are listed the varieties and their applications. Perma Guard comes in a five ounce puffer bottle, and one, two, five, ten, 30 and 50 pound bags.
HOUSEHOLD - The Household formula is effective against roaches, silverfish, ants, flies, bedbugs, fleas, box elder bugs, etc. in the home. Comes in five ounce puffer bottle, one, five and 30 pound bags. Application - It is best applied with the puffer bottle. Locate the area of infestation and lightly dust the cross paths of the insects. The powder sticks to insects as they come in contact with the product. Small microscopic spikes penetrate their exoskeleton thereby distributing the microscopic particles through their digestive organs. This causes death in a short time through dehydration. The average time for an insect to be immobilized is five to ten minutes.
GARDEN & PLANT - The Garden and Plant formula is useful to protect plants against a vast number of insects as listed on the label whether around the home or in the fields. It can be used on food crops even on the day of harvest. Comes in five ounce puffer bottle, two and 20 pound bags. Application - Indoors, apply the product with the puffer bottle, dusting the paths or areas of infestation. This is commonly under the leaf system. Outdoors, depending on the size of your garden, apply using the puffer bottle, lightly dusting the vegetation and leaf system. Water will wash away the product but the residue wil remain active. Best applied while plants are dry. Can be applied the same day as harvest and it will not harm human or animal life.
PET & ANIMAL - The Pet & Animal formula is effective against fleas, tics, and lice on animals. Instructions on the label should be followed to make certain of effectiveness. Should also be applied to animal sleeping areas. Comes in five ounce puffer bottle, one, two and 30 pound bags. Application - Using the puffer bottle, apply a dusting to your pets coat. Brush or rub into the dander of the coat and apply liberally as the thickness of the fur requires. Look for results and brush or bathe your pet as necessary to remove any dead fleas or tics. Be sure to treat pets sleeping areas as insects will live there waiting for the pet to return. Reapply after bathing on dry fur as a preventative. Use as often as necessary. A light residue does remain until area is washed or vacuumed.
FIRE ANT - The Fire Ant formula kills Fire Ants and a great many other insects. Use wet or dry according to the instructions on the label. Comes in five ounce puffer bottle, two and 30 pound bags. Application - It is best applied with the puffer bottle. Locate the area of infestation and lightly dust the cross paths of the ants. Locate nest if possible and dust liberally around the opening.
Other formulas available are: COMMERCIAL - GRAIN STORAGE - FOSSIL SHELL FLOUR - for specifications contact the ISAT office.
Perma Guard is a completely non-toxic bug killer that could revolutionize the insecticide industry. Dennis adds that another "really neat thing is that you can take it with juice or water. People say it gets rid of Mercury, nickel or lead poisoning for people who have that problem. I also hear it gets rid of toxins in your body. I can tell you it sure cleans you out." Many of us have dogs and cats and mine always have fleas, so I'll be ordering a case for our house today.

Non-synthetic and NOSB recommended synthetic therapeutic agents exist, such as lime-sulfur to treat mites in cattle, swine, sheep; rotenone for grubs in lactating cattle, and lice in swine and cattle; and diatomaceous earth for intestinal parasite and ectoparasite control (Haynes, 1981; Olkowski, Daar, and Olkowski, 1991; National Research Council, 1989). Fungal hyperparasites of the infective TAP Review Parasiticides Livestock stage of nematodes can also show significant (99.5%) reduction in fecal counts (Charles, et al., 1996).
Additionally, other methods being developed include new antiparasitic agents such as certain B.t. isolates, Penicillium species, new Streptomyces species, among others (Waller and Faedo, 1996; Londerhausen, 1996). These may not necessarily be considered non-synthetic depending on how they are derived or if a synthetic analog of a natural compound is commercialized from the natural compounds that are the original subject of research. In any case, the prospects for commercial availability of any truly sustainable approaches to parasite control such as vaccines, resistant hosts,
biological controls--especially the nematophagous fungi--appear to be at least 5 years away (Barger, 1996).
One method of intestinal parasite control that is available now is control through grazing systems involving spelled pastures, alternating sheep and cattle on pasture, or alternation between irrigated and non-irrigated pastures. In conjunction with pasture management, there is evidence that organic farming practices such as green manuring and decreased emphasis on anthelmintic use increase the abundance and variety of coprophilic micro-organisms and arthropods in the dung of pasturing animals that, in turn, act to control fecal forms of intestinal parasites (Waller and Faedo, 1996). There
are three systems of grazing that have been utilized: deferred grazing; alternate grazing of two or more ruminant species; and, alternate use. Deferred grazing is a form of pasture rotation in that the pasture is rested for 6 months during the cool season and 3 months in the warm part of the year, pastures are tilled and replanted with infective larvae succumbing to the effects of UV light and desiccation.
Alternate grazing depends on the two species ingesting different parts of the forage and coincidentally ingesting each other's parasite larvae. Alternate use relies on intensive grazing of the pasture for a short period of time, leaving that pasture to the production of harvestable hay that when baled and removed takes away most of the parasite burden, and returning animals to the original pasture when new growth emerges after haying (Scarfe).

Diatomaceous Earth
May 23, 1989
WHOSOEVER IT MAY CONCERN

DR. STUART B. HILL, DIRECTOR OF ECOLOGICAL AGRICULTURE PROJECTS
I have been working on developing safe pesticides for 20 years. About 10 years ago I started testing diatomaceous earth (also called fossil flowers and kieselghur) as a means for safely killing household and stored products insects. I found it was effective against roaches, ants, earwigs, beetles, some fleas, caterpillars and other crawling insects.
I am constantly being asked to recommend a safe, effective pesticide for use in the home, workplace and storage areas. Diatomaceous Earth is the only product that I can recommend as its mode of action is physical (by removing the wax and oil on the insect's body, it causes them to dry up and die) rather than chemical. "INSECT STOP" is one of several diatomaceous earth products that contain no toxic chemicals. You should be warned, however, that some formulations of diatomaceous earth produced by other companies (Fossil Flower for example) do have poisons added to them and these I am not recommending as safe products.
Being able to mix INSECT STOP with the bait of your choice enables you to control a wide range of pests that may be attracted by different materials.

Objective
- Vaporization of ammonia along with hydrogen sulfide into the air results in the deposition of nitrate and sulfate, creating widespread effects of acid rain that pollutes fresh water resources and acidifies soils and woodlands.
- Emission of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide also contributes to odor, a major disturbance to local residents. In addition, the loss of ammonia largely reduces the fertilizer value of swine slurry for crops. Therefore, strategies that can stabilize ammonia nitrogen will reduce pollution and swine odor and improve the fertilizer value of swine manure for crops.
- This study was designed to examine the effects of two sources of natural binding compounds (Diatomaceous earth and Zeolite) added at different levels to a typical corn and soybean meal-based grower diet on the emission of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide from the resulting swine slurry.
Results

- Adding at least 1.2% of Diatomaceous earth and 0.6% of Zeolite to a regular corn and soybean meal-based grower diet could significantly reduce accumulative ammonia emission from swine slurry. However, feeding Diatomaceous earth and Zeolite at any tested levels did not affect hydrogen sulfide emission from swine slurry.
- Diatomaceous earth and Zeolite can decrease ammonia emission likely through a trapping and binding capacity towards ammonia molecules in swine slurry.
- We are currently examining whether adding Diatomaceous earth and Zeolite at the tested levels affects the fecal excretion of other odor-causing compounds such as P-cresol and skatole.
- On the other hand, any positive and or adverse effects of feeding Diatomaceous earth and Zeolite on whole tract nutrient digestibility (dry matter, energy and phosphorous) in pigs will also be examined.
